Wildflower Trip to Merced River, Hite Cove and Red Hills - I took a short 2-day trip to Merced River to look for poppies along the river and hike the famous Hite Cove. Thanks to a tip from a fellow hiker, I went to visit Red Hills near Chinese Camp after a night in Yosemite. The bonus was encountering a bear and her cub in Yosemite. Short but rewarding trip.

Alaska & Western Canada - This auto trip took us over 9,000 miles and almost 4 weeks. Over the next coming months, we'll document places we visited and our driving experience through the less-traveled highways including the famous Alaska Highway. Posting now up to Day 16 including visits to Kenai to see the Russian heritage and dipnet fishing, and Homer the busy Alaska Marine Highway port.

Crater LakeOregon Wildflower & Geologic Tour - We visited Crater Lake, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and Oregon Dunes on the way back. This trip was our backup plan to the one to Mount Rainier for the wildflower season. It turned out we got to see a lot of colors - from the deep blue of Crater Lake to beds of wildflowers at the park's water streams, the eternal colorful volcanic ash at John Day Painted Hills and vibrant sunset along Oregon Coast.
Costa Rica Tour - We joined a 10-day Caravan tour to see natural sceneries and wildlife of Costa Rica. We traveled a good part of the country by bus, from San Jose to volcanos, to coastal and mountain national parks, took river cruises to observe wildlife and stayed at both Atlantic and Pacific resorts.
Utah Fall Foliage - In October 2010, we made a family road trip to Utah, first to visit Salt Lake City and friends, then to check out the touted fall foliage and the national parks. Most things worked out well although not as we had envisioned. After days of getting ready for the camping trip, the weather did not cooperate and practically rained the whole time we went sightseeing. We visited some familiar parks such as Bryce and Canyon, but also not as well-knowned places such as Mount Nebo (above).

Glen Canyon DamUSA Tour - We spent some five weeks on the road and covered over ten thousand miles. We learned a lot from nature, history and people along the way. Halong BayVietnam Tour - We traveled most of the length of the country by car. We saw many faces of Vietnam - rich to poor, crowded cities to thatch roofed villages, peaceful small towns to resort cities, and beautiful sceneries rivaling national parks in the US.
