Travelogue Overview

Below are trip summaries in chronological order. Click on trip links to get more detailed trip reports. As I catch up with writing about various trips, especially the Cross US trip, the link below and other pages will also be updated.

  • March 2005 - I resigned from my last company in time to catch the late stage of spring wildflowers. My wife and I went to Death Valley National Park as the wildflower season was advertised to be the best in half a century. On the way back, we also stopped by California Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve to see the hills of golden poppies along with "thousands" of other admirers.
  • April 2005 - I went to Anza Borrego (California State Park) and Joshua Tree National Park to see more desert landscape and also do a "dry run" on solo camping in preparation for longer trips.
  • June 2005 - I made a solo trip to visit Utah national parks and monuments. I also stopped by a few monuments in Arizona , as well as Kings Canyon National Park .
  • July 2005 - Technically started in late June and ended in early August, my wife and I made a cross country trip to the east coast and back, visiting several national parks and cities along the way. We also caught up with old friends and relatives at several cities.
  • October 2005 - I made two trips, both with the desire to observe autumn colors. The first was a solo trip to Eastern Sierra (from Lee Vining down to Whitney Portal and back). Then we "ventured" to the "unknown" territory of Plumas County that had been actively advertised as the "Awesome Autumn" country.

A few more trips are on the drawing board - back to northern Arizona hoping to catch images of the famous slot canyons and wavy rocks, then to Vietnam for a month long tour of the country, but things can change. Check back to see whether I actually make them or wind up at some different places.

For a bit more depth, read the linked pages about each trip, which in turn link to segments for each specific location. Significant places that I visited are also categorized - such as national parks and cities. You can review travelogues or photo sets for each place by follow appropriate links. Some reports are somewhat sketchy. My original intent was to both narrate the personal experience as well as providing useful information for trip planning and some background about the places, and of course, linking with images that tell a better story. As I've been having so much fun with traveling and capturing images, I've fallen behind on the travelogues and posting images. I suppose the only excuse I can use is I got my priorities right :). One of these days, they'll be more complete. Just don't ask me when.
